WFU Represented at Fifth Annual RayDay
This year, the fifth annual RayDay brought people together, encouraged conversations and connections, and continued to spread the word about sustainability in honor of the life and legacy of Ray C. Anderson.
Anderson, chairman and CEO of Interface, a carpet tile manufacturer, had his environmental epiphany in 1994 after reading “The Ecology of Commerce” by Paul Hawken. Not only did Anderson set out to change Interface, but he set out to make it as sustainable a company as he could. In the later part of his life, Anderson became an environmentalist evangelist in the corporate world, sharing the enlightenment he received.
In celebration, RayDay brings together environmental organizations, companies, nonprofits, guests– and for the second year in a row, the WFU Sustainability Graduate Programs and Center for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability (CEES).
Dr. Stan Meiburg, director of the Sustainability Graduate Programs, and Ally Hellenga, CEES communication and event coordinator, represented Wake Forest at the event.
“Ray Anderson’s legacy of visionary sustainability at Interface Carpets is legendary. But, his personal warmth and inspirational leadership made him a leader whose impact went far beyond his own business,” Meiburg said. “His insistence that sustainability was both essential for the planet and a market opportunity lives on as a challenge to us all.”
